NCG Reaches 1+ million sq. ft. Certified Under the USGBC’s LEED Program

Newman Consulting Group (NCG), based in Bloomfield Hills, MI, is proud to announce that it has surpassed the milestone of 1 million square feet of LEED certified space.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health.

“Becoming certified can be a long process, but the benefits are worthwhile in terms of energy savings, money savings, and the PR value both within a company and in the community,” says Jim Newman, LEED AP BD+C, CEM, CSDP, BEAP, OPMP, Owner and Managing Partner of Newman Consulting Group.

The 1,264,000 sq. ft. of LEED certified space includes projects in categories such as LEED foriStock 000003990428XSmall football field Homes, Existing Buildings, New Construction, and Commercial Interiors. NCG’s 14 LEED Certified projects range in size from a 2,400 sq. ft. SmartCar dealership in Conn., to a 477,000 sq. ft. financial headquarters in Mich. There is also a library, an airplane hangar, a courthouse, a private home and many other different types of buildings. Three of the projects achieved gold certification, the second highest level, and one is platinum, the highest level. Newman Consulting Group served as LEED project administrator on most of these projects, and has played support roles in other projects. Click here for a complete list.

1.26 million square feet is about 29 acres. It’s the size of a two-story building that is three football fields long (900 feet), and more than two football fields wide (700 feet).

“As a LEED project consultant, we help guide the company, the architect and construction manager through the various steps, helping them make better, more efficient choices. We also are experts at filling out the extensive forms required to apply for certification,” says Newman. “With architects, energy engineers and LEED reviewers on our team, we bring a lot of experience to each project.”

Newman Consulting Group (NCG), a Rebuild Michigan® Partner, and a DTE Energy Trade Ally has an additional 2 million square feet of space currently registered with USGBC that will apply for certification in the next 18 months. NCG works with architects, engineers, building owners and contractors throughout the world to design and build more energy-efficient buildings to LEED and other sustainable guidelines. NCG also helps commercial and industrial building owners conduct energy audits and then retrofit existing buildings so they use less energy – and save money - while maintaining or improving the indoor air quality.
