Recently I spoke at the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) 40th national conference that was held in Detroit. I was there representing the Detroit Regional Chapter of the US Green Building Council, and was pleased to see how many of those attending were LEED Accredited Professionals. It says a lot about how important green building principles are becoming in all areas of building and construction.

Update on LEED 2012

By now you may know that the much anticipated release of LEED 2012 has been postponed. Introduced last November at the Greenbuild Convention, LEED 2012 was supposed to replace LEED 2009 V3 at this year’s convention. Because of so many major changes, and a great deal of excellent feedback from the membership, USGBC made the wise decision to push back the release of this next version for another year and refer to it as LEED V4 rather than LEED 2009.

In 2003, I attended my first GreenBuild Convention, held in the new convention center in Pittsburgh, a very Green Building. At that convention there were approximately 4,000 attendees and less than 100 exhibitors. At the 2010 convention, only 7 years later - and in those distressed economic times - there were more than 28,000 attendees and almost a thousand exhibitors.
